THE FACTS MY ADVERSARIES – CRITICS AND SHELDON NEELEY DON’T WANT
YOU TO KNOW
When I ran for the office of Mayor in 2015 it wasn’t just a mere coincidence. As a Flint
native, resident and mother, I knew first hand the devastation that had plagued Flint. I like
so many of you could remember Flint at its best. The auto industry was thriving and the
economy was at an all time high and our education system was one of the best in the
country. Crime was low and our neighborhoods were flourishing with neighborly love,
pride and unity and we took on the tough challenges together standing in unity regardless
of race and demographics.
But the landscape of Flint drastically changed. Flint was hit hard with great devastation.
We lost thousands of GM jobs, the crime and murder rate increased by disturbing
numbers, and our jails was over crowded and our police force was at its lowest. The quality
of our education system began to rapidly decline and the Flint public schools found itself in
competition with academy schools and many Flint historical known schools by which many
of us attended were closed. Drugs and alcohol addiction and overdoes was on a dangerous
incline and mental illness and homeliness was at an all time high. Our neighborhoods were
overtaken by abandon homes, blight and neglect. Flint’s roads were in horrible conditions.
Many of our young people were lost, confused, defiant, out of control and choosing to live
the street life that was taking them down the wrong road. Seniors were forced to make a
choice between food and medicine. Our families were being destroyed, dysfunctional and
struggling to make ends meet. The unemployment rate was at an all time high. And to only
make matters worst Flint was attacked by the water crisis the worst man made disaster in
I like so many of you began to pray to God to restore Flint back to its rightful place of
resilience, pride, beauty and stability. I learned through prayer that I must be willing for
God to use me in the life of those and in the situation for which I was praying for. Based on
this revelation I felt deep in my spirit that I was the right person at the right time to lead
Flint out of crisis to recovery. So, without hesitation I made the decision along with the
support of my husband, family, friends, and my pastor and church family that I was going
to run for the Mayor of the City of Flint in 2015. Through the Grace of God I received 55%
of the vote that afforded me with the opportunity to be the first female elected by the
people to serve as Flint’s Mayor.
During my campaign I made many promises and I kept my promises through out my
tenure as Mayor.
May the work I done speak for me!!!!

In-spite of the great opposition, stumbling blocks, critics and unmerited accusations I
didn’t quit. I stayed the course. I believe that winning with integrity is paramount and should
be done without selling my soul. Integrity as an individual and Mayor is very important since
government effectiveness depends on it. I am able to evaluate moral considerations when
confronted with a complicated problem. I believe in safeguarding and protecting the public trust,
take risks in opposing unjust acts and exhibit humility at all times. It is my belief that Flint
Deserve Better and I want to pick up where I left off. So, I humbly ask the residents of Flint for
your trust in my integrity and leadership and for your vote on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
